New Curriculum Update

On December 13, 2021, Alberta Education announced changes to the new K-6 curriculum that was scheduled for full implementation in September.
The following three subjects have been updated and are scheduled for province-wide implementation in September 2022:
English Language Arts and Literature
Mathematics
Physical Education and Wellness
All other subjects will also be updated and new drafts will be released in the spring, with an implementation date still to be determined. Recognizing that the adjustments being made to the draft K-6 content will affect later grades, the government will sequence work on drafting curriculum for Grades 7-10 accordingly.
In response to the substantive feedback Alberta Education received about Social Studies, curriculum content changes will be made to ensure students learn historical content, build civic skills, explore First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone perspectives and learn about different cultures and communities.
There will be new engagement opportunities where Albertans can provide their feedback on the updated draft curriculum starting in January, 2022. Virtual sessions and sign up to find out about new engagements when details are available at alberta.ca/curriculum-have-your-say.
Please read the updated curriculum on new.learnalberta and visit the main website: alberta.ca/curriculum. Yesterday’s full announcement can be found here.
We will provide updates as they become available.
